Autumn is when the beautiful summer bedding displays and hanging baskets begin to fade.
So, it is the time to replace them with plants suitable for the winter and early spring.
Pansies and violas will give colour from Autumn to early Summer through all but the worst weather.
Polyanthus and Primroses provide that early splash of Spring colour, as do Wallflowers, Stocks and Sweet Williams.
Hanging baskets can be planted with Pansies or Violas, Cyclamen, Dwarf conifers, Ivy, Winter flowering heathers, Primroses, Spring bulbs etc.
It is also a good time to plant perennials and shrubs to enable them to get established for next year.
